Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Counselling

When something traumatic happens to you, your body and mind can react in different ways.

For some people, post-traumatic stress disorder develops. This often involves the person reliving the event through flashbacks and nightmares. These flashbacks can be triggered by everyday items and scenarios, making day-to-day life difficult.

Speaking to your doctor is the best way to get a diagnosis if you suspect you have PTSD. Also, speaking to a therapist can help reduce symptoms, sometimes using a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy approach (CBT).

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Symptoms

Everyone who develops PTSD will have a unique experience of the condition. These differences will be according to the person, not the traumatic event. However, there are some common symptoms associated with PTSD, including:

  • Flashbacks

  • Feeling on edge and hypervigilance

What our clients say.

” Rainer was a great help in listening to what I had to say, and then, gradually, his comments and prompts guided me to a fair amount of self reflection which helped me to realise that there are always other angles and perspectives to our ‘problems’, and that it was within me, myself, to reflect on and identify and choose to adjust my approach to things and choose ‘positive’ options rather than negative ones that may have become bad habits, which we have probably developed from a ‘tunnelled vision’ perspective. All of this has helped me to get less anxious and stressed with ‘life situations’ and to manage them in a more positive way. “

” I found doing Zoom the best therapy I have had. Think as it was in my own home I could be really comfortable and relax. I think this service via video link would be so beneficial to so many people who may not want to get out of their home or afraid to go to another unknown place. Really I feel it would be a great service after lockdown. I have had several lots of therapy over the years, but this definitely worked the best. Rainer is a really easy person to talk to. Zoom sessions made me much more relaxed and I talked much more freely. Thank you for your time listening to me. ”

” The recent death of my sister in America affected me greatly. I was unable to visit her due to covid and she passed on. I was recommended to Rainer and due to covid and my fibromyalgia and sadness I would not face to go out the house. First I could not master to sign onto Zoom straight away. Rainer telephoned me and guided me. I was very apprehensive at first. Rainer put me at ease and was easy to talk to. Gradually I could unburden my anxiety and my deep sadness which I carried inside me. Rainer helped me to come back to reality. Rainer is a kind and gentle person and I felt comfortable to talk to him. ”
